Significance Of Devshayani Ekadashi
Ekadashi, according to the Hindu/Vaishnav calendar, is observed as one of the most beautiful and sacred days dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Every year, we observe 24 Ekadashis, which means we observe two Ekadashis every month, one during the Shukla Paksha and the other during the Krishna Paksha. One who observes fasting on Ekadashi is said to be free from making wrong decisions or actions and moves towards a religious life. It is believed that by fasting on this day of the year, one can easily attain salvation, happiness, and prosperity in his/her life.

People wake up early in the morning, bathe, and wear clean clothes. They clean their house and the place of worship with Ganga water and lay yellow cloth at a wooden post. They even place an idol or picture of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi on this day. Clean the idol with Ganga water and milk, then clean it with pure water. After this, people offer garlands of flowers, yellow clothes, and fruits to the idol. Offer Puja by lighting up the lamps and incense sticks. Offer Lord Vishnu a basil leaf, yellow fruit (such as banana or mango), and satvik sweets, such as kheer or pudding, for enjoyment. Chant the mantra ‘Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya’ 108 times or recite Vishnu Sahasranama. On this auspicious day, worshiping Tulsi is important because Tulsi is very dear to Lord Vishnu. You can also keep a Nirjala fast on this day.
