Addressing the media, Jaishankar said, “Yesterday, I wanted to brief the Parliament and the people of the country regarding some latest and Important developments related to India’s foreign policy…But, sadly the opposition parties repeatedly disrupted my statement in both Houses of Parliament. This shows that the partisan politics was more important than national progress for them.”

On July 27, EAM S Jaishankar expressed his disappointment at the constant sloganeering by the opposition while he was giving a suo moto statement in the Rajya Sabha on India’s foreign policy in recent months.

Despite his efforts to address the House, the Opposition’s slogans overshadowed his statement, leaving him disheartened as they seemed unwilling to listen to anything beyond their criticism.

He emphasized that foreign policy is an area where both the Government and Opposition should collaborate, urging them to set aside their differences during discussions of national interest.

As the Minister addressed the House, demands for an ‘elaborate’ statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Manipur issue fueled the opposition’s protest. The situation escalated when NDA MPs chanted “Modi, Modi” in response, and in turn, the opposition INDIA alliance MPs countered with “INDIA, INDIA” chants.

Jaishankar stressed that it is vital for both sides to work together in shaping India’s foreign policy.

However, the disruptions hindered the smooth flow of his statement, leading to an atmosphere of discontent during the session.
