Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder: Jewellery, Laptop Seized From Indore Property Dealer’s Home

In a significant development in the Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Meghalaya Police recovered key evidence including jewellery, a laptop, and a pen drive belonging to the murdered couple Raja Raghuvanshi and his wife Sonam from Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district.

Police have seized the jewellery, which the Indore couple Raja Raghuvanshi and wife Sonam had taken with them on their honeymoon to Meghalaya, in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh. The Meghalaya Police special investigation team (SIT) had been investigating the matter in Madhya Pradesh.

The SIT obtained the jewellery and a number of other items including Sonam’s laptop and pen drive from the house of the in-laws of an Indore property dealer, Silome James.

James had previously rented out a flat in Indore to one of the three men, Vishal Singh Chauhan, who allegedly assisted Sonam in the death of her husband. Chauhan moved into the flat in Indore, after he returned from Meghalaya after killing Raja Raghuvanshi.

James was arrested earlier on suspicion that he attempted to tamper with evidence and conceal evidence related to the case. The flat’s owner, Lokendra Tomar, and security guard Balveer have also been arrested for tampering with evidence.

The suspicion turned out to be true when the Meghalaya SIT made its way to his in-laws, Ratlam, and discovered cash and incriminating documents. When questioned, James told the SIT that he transferred those items to his in-laws’ house in Ratlam.

The SIT officers stated that Sonam, the main accused in the murder case, is believed to have stayed in the Indore flat rented out by James from 26 May to 8 June, before she turned herself into the police.

Raja Raghuvanshi was killed by Sonam and the three men while the couple was in Meghalaya on their honeymoon. They were presumed missing when their family members could not contact them.

Originally, the investigation into the couple’s whereabouts shifted gears for investigators when Raja’s body was discovered at the base of a gorge on June 2. The preliminary autopsy report confirmed Raja was struck twice, once in the back and once in the front of the head.

On June 7, the ‘missing’ wife was discovered at a ‘dhaba’ in Ghazipur in an unconscious state and transported to Ghazipur Medical College for medical attention where she then gave herself up to police. All three remaining killers were arrested subsequently from later investigation.
