Cyclone Dana Live Updates: Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha) during mid-night of 24th October. IMD informed that the cyclonic storm Dana over northwest and adjoining central Bay of Bengal has moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred over northwest Bay of Bengal, near latitude 18.9°N and longitude 88.0°E, about 210 km southeast of Paradip in Odisha, 240 km south-southeast of Dhamara and 310 km south of Sagar Island in West Bengal).
Baleswar, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khorda, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Cuttack, Dhenkanal districts of Odisha and East and West Medinipur, South and North 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly, Kolkata, and Bankura districts of West Bengal are expected to receive the impact of Cyclone Dana.
A severe storm has battered the coastal regions of Odisha and West Bengal which have experienced moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds. As cyclone Dana is inching closer and closer to the coastal regions of the two states, it is most likely to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha early Friday with wind speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour.
In an attempt to help the people, the Odisha government has released the district helpline number ahead of Cyclone Dana's landfall.

The Kolkata airport authorities have suspended all flight operations at the airport for 15 hours from 6 pm on Thursday. They have taken all necessary steps to ensure the safety of passengers, airplanes, and infrastructure.
The airport authorities have sealed all entry and exit doors of the terminal building after the last flight departs from the Kolkata airport while the aircraft parked on the bays will be tied up.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has told journalists that she would stay at the state government secretariate called Nabanna overnight to monitor the situation. She also ordered all schools to close on Friday. Attending the press conference, she said, "People’s lives are most important and we will have to protect lives first. Schools will remain closed for tomorrow. I will also stay at Nabanna overnight and monitor the situation.”
As Cyclone Dana has moved to West Bengal and made landfall there, the government agencies have evacuated 1,59,837 people and relocated 83,537 to relief camps so far.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that cyclone Dana is most likely to move north-northwestwards and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island. It is likely to make landfall close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara in Odisha, in the intervening of October 24 and October 25.
On Cyclone Dana approaching, Odisha Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said, "All the ministers have been assigned responsibilities to look after the affected areas. One IAS officer in each district has also been deployed. Everyone is alerted in those places where the cyclone is expected to make landfall. Officers and our party members are also working sincerely."

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has chaired a high-level meeting over Cyclone Dana. He reviewed the preparedness at Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar. Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister, Suresh Pujari is also present in the meeting.

The Indian Navy is preparing to conduct Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations as Odisha and West Bengal are expected to receive the Cyclone Dana’s impact. Eastern Naval Command, in coordination with Naval Officers-in-Charge (NOIC) in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, have activated a comprehensive disaster response mechanism.

Strong winds have prevailed over Dhamra in Bhadrak district of Odisha. Along with gusty winds, heavy rain has also lashed the city. Bhadrak is one of the districts which is expected to receive maximum impact of Cyclone Dana in Odisha.
