The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) in several parts of the country this week, especially in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh. It has issued a “Red Colour Warning” indicating dangerous weather conditions. However, as clarified by the IMD, this does not signify a “Red Alert.”

Very heavy rainfall is likely in some areas of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Kerala on July 18. At the same time, heavy rains are expected in Rajasthan and South Interior Karnataka on the same day. Torrential rain is also forecast in Kerala on July 19 and 20.

Heavy to very heavy rains are likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh of North India from July 18 to 23. Rains may remain particularly intense in Uttarakhand between July 18 and 20, and again from July 23.
The weather will also remain active in East and Central India, where heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are likely in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. Continuous rains are also expected in some parts of Konkan coast, Goa and Maharashtra. Strong winds with speed of 40–50 kmph are likely over peninsular areas of South India during the next five days.
