IMD Issues Orange Alert For Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh; Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms To Lash The Region Tomorrow

The intensity of the rain could cause significant disruptions, therefore the residents are advised to be prepared for upcoming weather changes.

IMD Weather Update: A Western Disturbance extending as a trough in lower to upper tropospheric levels is currently affecting the Western Himalayan Region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued an orange alert for heavy rain accompanied by Thunderstorms and lightning over Jammu and Kashmir & Himachal Pradesh on March 3, 2025. Meanwhile, the Met body forecasts a severe hailstorm activity over Punjab tomorrow as a result of a significant weather system.

According to IMD’s press release on the 2nd of March, isolated to Scattered light/moderate rain and snowfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorms and lightning is likely over Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Uttarakhand on 3rd and 04th March. The intensity of the rain could cause significant disruptions, therefore the residents are advised to be prepared for upcoming weather changes.

Nowcast Warning For Tamil Nadu

Additionally, the weather body on Sunday issued an nowcast warning for Tamil Nadu. Here’s a breakdown of the weather conditions in TN:

Orange Warning

Moderate rain: 5-15 mm/hr (Moderate Thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed between 41 – 61 kmph) (In gusts)

Yellow Warning

Moderate rain: 5-15 mm/hr (Light Thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speed less than 40 kmph)

Heat Wave And Hot & Humid Weather Warning

According to IMD, heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in the isolated pockets over Coastal Karnataka on 3rd March. Meanwhile, hot and humid weather are expected over Konkan and Goa from 3rd to 5th March and in Coastal Karnataka on 4th & 5th March.
