High Alert In Kashmir Valley As Home Minister Amit Shah To Land In Srinagar

During his visit, Shah is set to hold critical security review meetings in both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. His itinerary includes a visit to Kathua, an area that has witnessed several operations between security forces and terrorists in recent weeks.

Security measures have been significantly heightened across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir as Union Home Minister Amit Shah embarks on a three-day visit, marking his first since the formation of the Omar Abdullah government. Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday, and will land in Srinagar today.

In anticipation of the Home Minister’s visit to Kashmir, security forces have established additional checkpoints throughout various districts of Kashmir, with a notable presence of Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, SSB, and ITBP personnel deployed at strategic locations across the Srinagar City. The road leading to Raj Bhawan from Srinagar Airport has been fortified, featuring security personnel stationed every 50 meters.

During his visit, Shah is set to hold critical security review meetings in both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. His itinerary includes a visit to Kathua, an area that has witnessed several operations between security forces and terrorists in recent weeks.

A senior BJP leader revealed that discussions will also focus on security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled to commence on July 3. In addition, Shah plans to review ongoing developmental projects and assess party activities during separate meetings.

Sources indicate that after arriving in Srinagar, the Home Minister will pay his respects at the home of martyred police officer Humayun Muzammil Bhat in Humhama. Son of the retired J&K Police IGP, officer Bhat lost his life during an encounter in Gadool village of Anantnag district, in 2023.

Shah has directed security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure zero infiltration and has reiterated the commitment to making the region terror-free. His visit comes just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled inauguration of the first train service between Katra town and Srinagar on April 19.
