In a horrible incident, a 37-year-old man, approximately 170 kg in weight, died after he suffered a heart attack whilst working out at a gym in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. He collapsed whilst mid workout on Tuesday morning at a gym in Sector-9.
The deceased is Pankaj Sharma, a resident of Raja Nahar Singh Colony, Gali No. 6. He and his friend Rohit reached the gym at approximately 10 a.m. on the day of the incident.
Rohit recounted that Pankaj had a small cup of black coffee before starting his exercises and apparently commenced shoulder pull-ups. During his third pull-up, he suddenly dropped.
Upon hearing the commotion, other users of the gym rushed over to help. They tried to revive him and provided him with water, but he vomited and fell again. Friends administered CPR twice, but there was no response. The doctors from a nearby Sarvodaya Hospital were called. Upon examination, the doctors declared Pankaj dead.
Rohit said Pankaj had been working out at the gym regularly for the last four months to lose weight. He worked with his father in their family’s construction business. His father Rajesh said that Pankaj was very health conscious and never took protein powders/ steroids.
Gym trainer Vikram Das called it a totally unexpected incident. He confirmed that CPR was attempted in a timely manner but was not successful. The police were notified and have taken the CCTV footage and information from the gym for their investigation. Pankaj had been married for four years and was the father of a 2.5-year-old daughter.
