Popular playback singer Sonu Nigam has been in the centre of the controversy and now his song has been removed from the upcoming Kannada film ‘Kuladalli Keelyavudo’ following the controversy that sparked during his concert in Bengaluru.
However, the singer has issued the public apology and clarification but despite that the film’s makers have decided not only to replace his song but also to put a full stop on any future collaborations with the singer.
Sonu Nigam’s Song Removed Over Kannada Remarks
The film’s producers finally released an official statement confirming the removal of Sonu’s track ‘Manasu Haadtade’ from the film.
The official statement reads, “There is no doubt that Sonu Nigam is a good singer. But we are very upset by how he spoke about Kannada recently at a concert. We cannot tolerate the insult he has done to Kannada, so we have removed the song.” Singer Chethan has now been roped in to re-record the song.
The song was received well by the audience on it’s initial release, it is composed by Manomurthy and written by Yogaraj Bhat. Though, it will no longer feature in the final cut of the film, but it is still available on Sonu Nigam’s official You tube channel .
What Sparked The Controversy?
The controversy began when a video clip from Sonu Nigam’s Bengaluru concert went viral. In the video, Sonu appeared to be dismissing a fan’s repeated request to sing in Kannada. This sparked outrage among Kannadigas and led to his sharp criticism from the industry.
The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) soon advised the makers to just stop working with Sonu.
Sonu Nigam Apologises On Instagram
In response to all this, Sonu Nigam issued a public apology on Instagram, writing, “Sorry Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always.”
However, now this apology doesn’t looks to be appreciated and the singer finds himself sidelined by the Kannada film industry.
