Ram Gopal Varma Cheque Bounce Case: Renowned filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has reportedly landed in legal trouble again due to his cheque bounce case. According to a report by India Today, a Mumbai court has issued a non-bailable warrant against the director. The court reportedly dismissed his bail plea as well as a request for a stay on his conviction and sentence. His lawyer Dujendra K.H. Sharma represented him as Ram Gopal Varma was absent during the appeal hearing.
His lawyer had submitted two applications, one for bail during the appeal and another seeking a stay on his conviction and sentence. However, Judge AA Kulkarni ordered that Ram Gopal Varma must appear in person to submit any further applications. The court denied both the applications because of the absence of Satya hitmaker. The next hearing is scheduled on July 28, 2025.
About The Controversy:
In 2018, a complaint was reportedly filed against Ram Gopal Varma’s firm by an organisation called Shree through Maheshchandra. According to the complaint, Varma’s production company ordered hard disks worth Rs 2,38,220 between February and March 2018. The company reportedly did not receive any payment, and the cheques issued by Varma’s firm were bounced.
However, the filmmaker argued that the bounced cheque was signed by his ex-employee. The lower court, in January 2025, convicted Varma in this case and sentenced him to three months of simple imprisonment.
