Pakistani actors Mahira Khan and Fawad Khan have been recently removed from the posters of their Bollywood films on music streaming platforms. Mahira who has been known for her role in Raees opposite Shah Rukh Khan and Fawad who was featured in Kapoor & Sons is no longer there in the promotional images of these movies or on apps like Spotify and YouTube Music.
Not only Fawad and Mahira but Mawra Hocane, who was most loved among audience for her character ‘Saru’ has also been removed from the album covers of her film Sanam Teri Kasam. T
Crackdown On Pakistani Artists’ Presence In Indian Projects
The removal of Pakistani actors from digital platforms appears to be the result of tensions rising between India and Pakistan. As relations between the two countries is worsening, there has been a continuous efforts India is taking to reduce the visibility of Pakistani artists in Indian media and entertainment.
In the latest changes: Raees album cover now shows only Shah Rukh Khan, with Mahira Khan’s image removed. Also, the song Buddhu Sa Mann from Kapoor & Sons which was featuring Fawad Khan, is now inaccessible in India on YouTube, showing a message: “Video unavailable. The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”
- Fawad’s image has also been erased from the song’s promotional poster on music apps.
India-Pakistan Tensions Behind the Decision
This current steps come in the wake of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. India’s strong response through Operation Sindoor is also included measures like banning Pakistani content on streaming and OTT platforms.
