The QS World University Rankings 2026 released on Thursday ranks leading educational institutions around the world. This time a total of 54 institutions from India have found a place in this global ranking. Among these, IIT Delhi performed the best and secured the top position in India.
The sustainability score measures an institution’s participation in areas such as waste management, energy efficiency, student welfare, transparency and ethical decision-making ability.
Below Are The Top 10 Institutions In India And Their Sustainability Scores As Per The QS Rankings 2026:
The leading Indian higher education institution was the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi with an overall rank of 123 overall for the World’s top institutions. IIT, Delhi achieved a sustainability score of 79.9.
The second Indian institution was the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB) with an overall 129 rank overall. IIT, Bombay achieved a sustainability score of 75.2.
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) with an overall position of 180, achieved a sustainability score of 73.
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) secured the 215th overall position, while achieving an overall sustainability score of 77.8.
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore achieved the 219 rank overall in the QS World Rankings 2025 with a sustainability score of 66.3.
The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) received a sustainability score of 74.7 and an overall rank of 222.
The University of Delhi got an overall rank of 328 and a sustainability score of 71.2.
The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG) received an overall rank of 334, receiving the lowest sustainability score of the top 10 Indian institutions in QS World University Rankings 2026, receiving a sustainability score of 43.
The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR) received a sustainability score of 57.5 and an overall rank of 339.
Anna University, Chennai got a rank of 465 and a sustainability score of 64.5.
A total of eight Indian universities were included in the QS Global University Rankings for the first time this year which reflects a positive growth in the overall quality of higher education institutions, to which the current QS rankings focus more on.
This year’s QS Global University Rankings Eight new Indian universities have entered the 2010s, reflecting the improvement in the quality of the country’s higher education system.
