New Delhi: The Delhi Police Commissioner’s office announced on Monday, September 30, that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been implemented at several locations in the city and will be effective immediately. This action follows intelligence reports indicating a higher likelihood of protests, demonstrations, and campaigns by various groups in the first week of October 2024.

The commissioner’s office said the decision was taken given the tense atmosphere prevailing in the national capital because of unresolved political issues such as proposed changes in the Waqf Board, Shahi Idgah matter, pending DUSU election results, state assembly elections, and finally, the festivals that are forthcoming.

Delhi Police Enforces Section 163 Of BNS

The Delhi Police has used section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in New Delhi, North and Central districts as well as in police stations that are located close to the borders of Delhi for six days.

Delhi Police issued a notice stating that many groups are planning to hold demonstrations all over the city. The City will have increased security as it awaits the outcome of the Delhi University student elections and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. With the celebrations, there will be increased VVIP movement, especially in New Delhi and Central Delhi.
