In a bid to enhance passenger safety and strengthen security on trains and at railway premises, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Howrah Division has intensified its crackdown on Theft of Passenger Belongings (TOBP). As part of a special operation conducted between June 22 and June 26, 2025, RPF teams apprehended 12 offenders involved in thefts across the division. The targeted action came in response to rising complaints submitted through the Rail Madad platform.
The RPF relied heavily on real-time CCTV surveillance, which proved instrumental in tracking suspicious activity and identifying culprits. Several offenders were caught red-handed while attempting to steal passengers’ belongings.
12 Accused Nabbed
Of the total offenders, four individuals were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), where cases were registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The remaining eight were prosecuted under the Railways Act and, following legal proceedings, were sentenced to 10 days’ imprisonment by the Court.
This operation reflects the continued commitment of the RPF Howrah Division to maintaining law and order across railway premises through sustained enforcement, advanced surveillance, and close coordination with other enforcement agencies. Passengers are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity through official platforms such as Rail Madad and Helpline 139.
