Delhi: A tragic incident occurred in Delhi’s Vasant Vihar, where a drunk driver allegedly ran over five people sleeping on the footpath. The event took place on 9 July 2025, at around 1:45 am near the Indian Oil petrol pump, in front of Shiva Camp. Delhi Police received the information through a PCR call. Officers from the Vasant Vihar police station arrived at the spot, and the four injured were taken to the hospital.
The driver has been arrested. The victims included two couples and an eight-year-old girl. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was drunk at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, the police said they have launched an investigation to determine the sequence of events. An official said that eyewitness accounts revealed it was a white Audi that crushed the victims while they were asleep. The accused, 40-year-old Utsav Shekhar, a resident of Dwarka, was apprehended on the spot.

The victims, 40-year-old Ladhi, 8-year-old Bimla, 45-year-old Sabami, 35-year-old Narayani, and 45-year-old Ramchander, were admitted to the hospital and are receiving medical care. One of the victim, Ramchander, told ANI, “We were sleeping when the car hit us at around 1 AM… Two people were injured, but then my wife’s ear was also injured, and her rib was broken… The police took us to the hospital… There should be action against the driver…”
