Delhi Fuel Ban On Hold: Here’s How You Can Get Back Your Seized Vehicles

If any owner has thought that the seizure of their vehicle was wrongful they can also register appeals for the wrongful Seizure or opt for  re-registration or scrapping the vehicles with incentive

The strict fuel ban on End-of-Life (ELV) vehicles has been rolled back. The ELV fuel ban was lifted following widespread uproar from Delhi residents. Users raised concerns about vehicles being forcibly seized or sold without due process. To address the disruption caused by the sudden enforcement of the ban, authorities have introduced a streamlined process to help users reclaim their seized vehicles. They can now reclaim their vehicles by following the steps below.

Since Delhi’s fuel ban has been paused, owners can reclaim their seized vehicles by following a few steps outlined by the government. Owners can do so by verifying the vehicle’s status at transport.delhi.gov.in. To proceed, they will need to submit ownership documents, clear any pending fines, and pass an emission test. Additionally, if an owner believes their vehicle was wrongfully seized, they can register an appeal, or choose to either re-register or scrap the vehicle with incentives. Here are the steps that users need to follow.

Verify Vehicle Status

Owners will need to contact the Delhi Transport Department to confirm whether their vehicle was seized or impounded due to the earlier fuel ban policy. Affected users must provide proof of ownership, including the registration certificate, insurance papers, a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, and receipts related to the vehicle’s impoundment.

The inconsistent enforcement across Delhi’s zones further added to the stress and confusion of vehicle owners. Promptly checking vehicle status may be helpful, as it’s possible that some vehicles are still in government yards. To do so, users will need to visit the Delhi Transport Department portal.

Submit Application For The Release f the Vehicle

After checking the status of their vehicle, users must file an application with the Delhi Transport Department or designated RTOs for its release. They need to include all relevant documents and pay any applicable fines or impoundment fees. The government has also waived certain penalties for owners affected by the sudden enforcement.

Undergo Inspection and Compliance Check

Some vehicles that have not been scrapped may still be eligible for reclaiming, but they must first pass an emissions test and physical inspection to verify compliance with Delhi’s environmental norms before release. It is advisable to reclaim your vehicle only if it has been well-maintained and has consistently passed PUC tests while in use. Users must also book an emissions test at authorised centres listed on the Delhi Pollution Control website.

File Appeals for Wrongful Seizure or Exemptions

These options are available only to users whose vehicles were incorrectly classified as ELVs. Users whose vehicles had vintage number plates or were mistakenly tagged as ELVs can register an appeal with supporting documents.

Choose Re- Registration or Scrapping

Based on the vehicle’s condition, users can either re-register it for continued use or opt to scrap it in exchange for financial incentives.
